Before I started to play battlefield 3, I never really had a game where I had to deal with bullet drop, at least not at longer distances. I never cared too much but now, -because of bf3- I started to think about what do the dots and lines mean EXACTLY in the sniper rifle scopes? Obviously (as I think) they should help me aiming for enemies who are far away from me. The dots are arranged such that when you're looking at a wall 1000m away, the distance between dots will be 1m.
How To Unlock Sights In Battlefield 1
Since it's based on angle, that conversion should work for any measurement system. Basically, you can use this info to measure the range to the target, then adjust for drop.

A good sniper will ajust their bullet drop variation by lokking at objectives and how far they are. For example if u r sniping and you see someone attacking an objective that says its 500m aways you would aim with the 500m mark on his head. The 12x scope's horizontal lines have different distances depending on the rifle being used because of the varying bullet speeds. SV98 12x First line = 250m Second line = 600m M98B 12x First line = 500m Second line = 1200m I haven't tested all rifles, but for at least for these 2, those are the distances I found. Mathematically, i think the second line down is about 140% more than the first line. 8x scopes and different zooms will have different measures as well.
Oh and the MAV can help you gauge distance. When its flying around, theres a number thats constantly changing on the middle bottom of your view. The number is the distance from the MAV to wherever the crosshairs are pointing. You have to compensate a little bit for the height of the MAV but your pretty close to right on.
